In light of Samoa’s first COVID-19 community transmission case, Cabinet activated alert level 2 midnights last night.
The announcement by Prime Minister Fiame Naomi Mata’afa last night following an emergency Cabinet meeting with the National Emergency Operation Committee.
A 29 year old female from Vaitele Tai first showed symptoms last week Saturday, but was only tested yesterday.
Fiame said the woman went to take the test as a prerequisite to travel overseas when the test came back positive.

Alert level 2 which commenced last night will end midnight tonight and then Samoa will go into alert level 3, CODE RED a nation lockdown where only essential services will be exempted.

Earlier this week NEOC confirmed three frontliners were the latest confirmed COVID-19 cases in the Country, which includes two health workers and one driver.
To date there are 16 new positive active cases of COVID-19, including Samoa’s first community case.
