The parole board released a total of 18 prisoners late last year. This was confirmed by Police Commissioner Auapa’au Logoitino Filipo in response to questions from Radio Polynesia.
In addition, 152 prisoners were allowed to spend Christmas Day with their families while 165 prisoners were released for New Year’s Day. All those prisoners had since returned back to the Tanumalala prison after their holiday release.
The Police Commissioner who is also a member of the Parole Board said there were 80 parole requests but 18 parolees were released, which included two females.
Members of the Parole Board are the Chair, Supreme Court Justice Niava Mata Tuatagaloa, the Attorney General, the Police Commissioner and CEO of the Ministry of Justice and Courts Administration and two members of the community.
