An 18-year-old male has been charged in relation to an alleged robbery of a couple, passengers of the MSC Poesia cruise ship that docked in Samoa on 19 February 2023.
Police Commissioner Auapa’au Logoitino Filipo confirmed this with Radio Polynesia.
The young man according to Auapa’au will appear in the Supreme Court on robbery charges in two weeks’ time.
He said this matter came to light when the elderly couple lodged a complaint with police after the accused yanked the woman’s purse and took off, in broad daylight.
The police commissioner also confirmed the young man was apprehended a few hours after the alleged robbery occurred.
He also reminded the young men and women of Samoa that anticipate taking the same route that they will face the full extent of the law when they are caught robbing tourists.
