To date 48 Electoral out of 51 Electoral Constituencies, have signed up for the Government’s $1 million tala District Development project.
This was confirmed by the Chief Executive Officer of the Ministry of Women Community and Social Development Dr. Mema Motusaga.
Savali reported the deadline for July 31, 2022, for Constituencies to meet a range of mandated requirements for eligibility, which included the establishment of a Central District Development Center to centralize administration and coordination of community projects.
“Each Center must have three qualified full-time staff under the supervision of an Executive Officer · Finalize community projects to be funded by the grant.”
This is one of the core projects implemented by the FAST Government since taking office last year.
Dr Motusaga told Savali that the districts are going through the motions which include building a Center and recruiting full-time staff for the respective Centers. Some of the Constituencies are operating from rental office space on a temporary arrangement while construction is underway on a permanent office.
“As for recruitment, MWCSD is in charge of advertising the post while the Member of Parliament is responsible for shortlisting, interviewing, and appointing qualified applicants.
And there are compulsory requirement for applicants to be considered for the vacancies. They must be a registered voter of the Electoral Constituency and a permanent resident, living 24-7 in the constituency.”
