A total of 71 babies have tested positive for COVID-19, from newborns up to four years of age.
This is outlined in the Ministry of Health’s latest data released today. Children between the ages of 5-9; a total of 33 have the virus while 90 children are positive for the ages of 10-14.
As of Tuesday, the Ministry of Health says 129 new confirmed community cases have been recorded since Samoa recorded its first community case on the 17th of March 2022 and it currently stands at 1,493 of which 1,330 are active community cases.
Upolu accounts for 97 percent of total confirmed community cases with the remaining 3 percent in Savaii.
There are no community cases recorded for the islands of Manono and Apolima Tai and during the online press conference yesterday, Acting Director General, Tagaloa Dr Robert Thomsen explained they have yet to test residents of Manono and Apolima and they have not received any call for people getting sick on the islands.
According to the MOH data, of the community cases approximately, 56 percent are females and 44 percent are males.

The MOH graph also shows an increasing rate of infection among those between the ages of 40-64 with a total of 406. The Ministry of Health confirmed 18,010 RATs have been administered to date since the first case was detected.
