Aeau Christopher Hazelman, appointed as MESC CEO

Veteran educator Aeau Christopher Hazelman is the new Chief Executive Officer for the Ministry of Education, Culture and Sports, (MESC).
This was confirmed in a statement issued by the government today.
“A pragmatic educator of 29 years, Aeau’s wealth of experience includes working in Mission and Public schools as a teacher and leader.
For 13 years, Aeau served as Director of Catholic Education in Samoa from 2003- 2016 after a decade of services as a teacher, Vice Principal and eventually Principal of the Catholic Senior College.“He joined the public service as Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Council of the National University of Samoa in 2014 until 2021.”

Aeau graduated with a Bachelors of Art- Geography and Sociology from the University of the South Pacific, (USP) in 1993 and the following year completed his Postgraduate–Education also from USP.

His appointment is for three years.

The appointment of the MESC CEO comes 10 months after the previous CEO’s extension of the contract for Afamasaga Dr. Karoline Fuatai’s was terminated by Cabinet for putting out a public notice that contradicted the announcement by the Prime Minister for re-opening of schools back in February.
