Assistant Attorney General, Fuimaono Sefo Ainu’u resigned from the Attorney General’s office today.
This was confirmed by Attorney General Su’a Hellen Wallwork who says Ainuu’s resignation is not a surprise.
In response to questions from Radio Polynesia, Su’a said: “Yes, I can confirm Mr Ainuu resigned today [his] resignation is not a surprise and I have wished him well.”
Adding that he’s given his four weeks notice. Fuimaono was in charge of the Civil Litigation and Opinions Division which is tasked to provide legal advice on legislation administered by Ministries and Corporations.
Also, the Civil Division of the Attorney General’s office represents Government bodies in civil claims before the Supreme District and Appeals Court to ensure all parts of the Government act in accordance with the law.
Furthermore, the Division participates in Committees and working parties to ensure all legal requirements are satisfied.
This week Ainu’u appeared before the Court on behalf of the AG’s office as a party to the lawsuit filed by the FAST Political Party and To’omata Nora Leota challenging the extra seats for women Members of Parliament.
Efforts were made to get comments from Fuimaono as to why he resigned but were unsuccessful as of press time.
The story has been amended to reflect the latest comments from the Attorney General.
