Prime Minister Fiame Naomi Mata’afa has urged Members of Parliament to avoid making decisions based on their political opinions but rather base their decisions on the law approved in Parliament.
While it is the nature of the political parties and their opinions are welcomed but Parliament decisions are led by laws already approved to ensure laws are just and right.
The comments by Fiame were made this week in Parliament during the deliberation of recommendations pertaining to the Constitution Amendment Act 2020 and the Land and Titles Act 2020, which revamps the Judiciary as a whole.
Fiame said recommendations were made by the Commission of Inquiry in June to report the outcome of its investigation to the Attorney General for further investigation.
In conclusion, the Attorney General made recommendations to refer all Acts to their original state as passed by Parliament on 15th December 2021.
“To draft a Bill that will serve to amend the Land and Titles Act 2020 to solve the current hold on operations of the Land and Titles Court further to the selection of judges for the Land and Titles Court and thirdly pursuant to Standing Orders 113.
“The Clerk of the Legislative Assembly should immediately dispose of the Constitution Amendment Act 2020 and the Land and Titles Act 2020, and process the true Bills passed by Parliament for re-assent by O le Ao o le Malo.”
