The available Government audit reports are from the financial year 2018-2019. Auditor and Comptroller Fuimaono Camillo Afele has yet to respond to queries for comments as to why there is a delay.
In January, Fuimaono Camillo Afele said Audit reports submitted to Parliament as per laws are up to date.
Fuimaono told Radio Polynesia the Samoa Audit Office submitted three reports to the new Parliament XVII for 2020 and 2021 last year, however, it has not been made public yet.
The Chief Auditor was responding to Radio Polynesia’s questions over concerns raised by the public that it’s now 2023, and the Audit report available publicly are from four years ago.
“You are correct the last report on our website which we submitted to Parliament XVI relates to 2019 and you are also correct that Parliament has a process for dealing with its papers that is not within our jurisdiction.
“What I can do is to enquire with the new Speaker and new Clerk for Parliament XVII and new Attorney General whether they have the same or different interpretation as the past Speaker, Clerk, and Attorney General of the laws on the publication of parliamentary papers including audit reports to parliament,” said Fuimaono.
Adding that the Audi Office is currently working on another report to Parliament for 2021.
“And also commenced work on two reports to parliament for 2022. We hope these 3 reports will reach parliament by the end of June 2023,” he said in an email to Radio Polynesia.
