The Meteorology office continues to monitor the weather and according to climatology, August is the coolest month on average.
“It is not a complete surprise that overnight temperatures drop to the low teens. The Afiamalu station in particular (at around 700 meters in elevation) holds the record for the lowest minimum temperature ever recorded since observations in Samoa started.
“Now the question becomes, where in Samoa do we observe the actual coldest/lowest temperature in any given year? Certainly Mount Silisili but that is yet to be revealed.
Another cool/cold night is ahead of us. Keep warm. Our technicians and forecasters are in action to manually verify temperature observations at Afiamalu.”
