The Chief Executive Officer of Samoa Sports Facilities Authority Moefaauo Polailevao Salale Moananu has been criminally charged by the Ministry of Police and Prisons.

This is in relation to a dispute on the road last week that led to the discovery of a firearm inside the Government vehicle assigned to him.

This was confirmed by Acting Deputy Commissioner Papalii Efo Moalelel in response to questions from Radio Polynesia.

Moefaauo declined to comment when contacted by Radio Polynesia noting the matter is now with the Police but confirmed the criminal charges.

And further stated that he wasn’t armed with the gun during the alleged dispute but confirmed the gun was “inside” the Government vehicle.

“The CEO is facing charges of assault, presenting a firearm, threat to kill, and unlawful possession of a legal firearm without a license” namely a shotgun gauge 22,” said Papalii.

“The shotgun is licensed but he does not possess a license to carry the said firearm.”

Moefaauo was charged on Wednesday and is out on bail however with conditions that he signs at the Police headquarters in Apia every Friday.

“He is scheduled to appear on 26 July 2022 for his criminal mention before the court,” said Papalii.

The Police say the incident occurred on 2 July 2022 when the accused got into a dispute on the road with another driver. It is alleged that the CEO assaulted the victim who then filed a complaint as a result.
