The Village Council of Salelavalu has yet to turn in the three men from the village implicated in a drug raid, that led to the shooting of Police officers over the weekend.
This was confirmed by Police Commissioner Auapa’u Logoitino Filipo who is heading to Savaii today to meet with Chiefs of Salelavalu on the status of the suspects the Council were supposed to turn into the Police yesterday.
He said the Village Council met yesterday instead of turning over the men, agreed to “penalise” them.
On Saturday, Police responded to a call from Salelavalu villagers reporting marijuana plantations in the village.
Police confiscated 35 marijuana plants at the first plantation however when they approached the second plantation that’s when the Police were shot at.
Auapa’au said two officers sustained minor injuries, they were treated at the Tuasivi hospital and were discharged on the same day.
The suspects are Manuia Lafaele aka Manuia Tanuvasa or Manu Lafaele; Masina Lega Taulelei aka Tiata and Apisoloma Setu aka Sula Setu.
Auapa’au told Radio Polynesia the Police had an agreement with the Village Council of Salelavalu but they did not honour it.
