The Ministry of Police and Prisons have transferred its investigation report with recommendations to file criminal charges against the former Prime Minister under criminal libel law, to the Attorney General’s office.

“And we are now waiting for the legal review by the Attorney General’s office on the Police report,” says Police Commissioner Auapa’au Logoitino Filipo in response to Radio Polynesia questions

The criminal complaint against Tuilaepa Dr Sailele Malielegaoi was filed by Minister of Works Transport and Infrastructure Olo Fiti Vaai for “defamation”.

Auapa’au told Radio Polynesia today, the file was transferred to the AG’s office last week.

“We also requested that if they concur with our recommendations then their office should be the ones to prosecute this matter,” said Auapa’au.

The defamation complaint is in relation to the Government Landcruiser purchased to use by Minister Olo for work purposes, it’s alleged the former PM claims the vehicle was registered under the Minister’s name.

In June, Minister Olo Fiti dismissed claims the Government Landcruiser that he is using with a private license plate is registered under his name.

He also explained there is a legitimate reason why the vehicle has a private license plate, rather than a Government plate indicating that it is the property of the Government.
