The driver of the hit-and-run in Lalovaea over the weekend has been arrested and charged. The 26-year-old from Salani Falealili turned himself into the Police Monday afternoon.
Police Commissioner Auapa’au Logoitino Filipo told Radio Polynesia they had footage of the vehicle when it ran over the victim, Valavala Sasa, on Saturday.
The driver is facing negligence driving, causing death, said the Commissioner. He suspects the accused came forward after their notice with details of the vehicle from video footage from Frankie’s Supermarket in Lalovaea.
As reported earlier, Telesia Valavala Seumanutafa, in an interview with told Radio Polynesia, appealed to the public for any information that could lead to some answers over the death of her husband.
Telesia said they have six children; her husband was the family’s only breadwinner.
The woman said she received the devastating call that her husband’s body was at the morgue, and seeing him lying on the table lifeless with severe injuries was “heartbreaking”.
Mr Valavala works at the Jaffa Santitation in Motootua. During the interview, the woman said she had never expected her family would be on the receiving end of sad news.
