The Ministry of Police and Prisons charged the bus driver that crashed at Malifa on Monday morning with over 30 passengers on board.
The driver faces two charges: negligent driving causing death and negligent driving causing injury. Police Commissioner Auapa’au Logoitino Filipo says more criminal charges are possible.
As first reported yesterday by Radio Polynesia, a 66-year-old man from Poutasi Falealili died on Monday night due to the severity of his injuries.
Three other passengers remain in critical condition. He said their investigation is underway, but the preliminary reports indicate the bus had faulty brakes.
Video footage on the incident showed the bus split in half after crashing into the oncoming Tucson.
According to Auapa’au the driver of the Tucson was a female and was also taken into the hospital for treatment but was released.
The video footage of the incident showed that the back of the Tucson sustained a huge dent.
