Former Prime Minister Tuilaepa Dr Sailele Malielegaoi has requested the Ministry of Police and Prisons to assign police officers as his security detail, following an incident that occurred last week where he was assaulted by a woman, the same age as him.

This was confirmed by Police Commissioner Auapa’au Logoitino Filipo in response to questions from Radio Polynesia.

The Commissioner said the request from the suspended Lepa MP, has been considered but there are factors to be reviewed prior to a final decision; including the fact that he is a suspended MP, despite the fact that he is the leader of the Human Rights Protection Party.

Following the service of the Ministry of Justice and Courts Administration last Friday, a woman in her 70’s collared Tuilaepa and broke his ulafala as a result.

Tuilaepa however did not wish to file a criminal complaint against the woman, who was taken to the police station to give her statement.
