Gov ministries raise awareness on how to deal with natural disasters

In response to the Manu’a Group Volcanic and Earthquake swarm, the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment together with its response agencies such as SFESA, Samoa Red Cross Society, Ministry of Police, Ministry of Women, Community and Social Development, Ministry of Education, Sports and Culture rolled out its Community Disaster & Climate Risks Management (CDCRM) Program in the community to prepare and train local people living along the coastal areas which are vulnerable to natural disasters.
The objective of this program is to create awareness of the Manu’a Island situation, promote preparedness at the personal, household, community and district level, assess the vulnerability and capacity within the community, identify roles of different stakeholders in the communities and conduct village drills to test village plans.
This CDCRM Program covered the most vulnerable districts such as;
• Lotofaga and Lepa
• Aleipata Itupa i Luga
• Aleipata Itupa i Lalo
• Falealili 1
• Falealili 2
• Siumu
• Safata 2
• Safata 1
• Lefaga & Faleaseela
