The Ministry of Police and Prisons was at the center of a land dispute between Saleimoa and Afega residents, where rocks were thrown around and gunshots were fired.
Police Commissioner Auapa’au Logoitino Filipo told Radio Polynesia that an Afega man was taken into the hospital for treatment to the head. He was struck by a rock when stones were flying back and forth in the disputed area.
He said the Police investigation into this matter is continuing, and there is a possibility that criminal charges will be laid. Furthermore, more than 20 Police Officers were called to render assistance in keeping the peace between residents of the two villages.
According to the Police Commissioner, there is a Lands and Titles Court decision on the specific land in question but it’s apparent some of the parties involved disregard the court’s orders.
