Samoa’s Head of State Le afioga ile Ao Mamalu ole Malo, Tuimalealiifano Vaaletoa Sualauvi II and Masiofo Faumuina Leinafo are on their way to London to attend Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth’s funeral services.
The Queen’s coffin is now Lying-in-State in Westminster Hall. This afternoon it travelled down the Mall to Horse Guards Parade and Parliament Square before reaching the Palace of Westminster.
During the Lying-in-State, members of the public will have the opportunity to visit Westminster Hall to pay their respects to The Queen. On the morning of Monday 19th September, the Lying-in-State will end and the Coffin will be taken in Procession from the Palace of Westminster to Westminster Abbey, where the State Funeral Service will take place.
Last week, Tuimalealiifano expressed deepest condolences to His Majesty King Charles III for the passing of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, on behalf of the government and the people of Samoa.
A statement issued by the Samoa Government by Le Afioga i le Ao Mamalu “Her Majesty’s reign represented strength, stability and inspired leadership, and in a rapidly changing world and challenges, Her Majesty’s selfless service was a constant point of wisdom and courage for the people of Samoa.
“Her Majesty will be warmly remembered for her dedication, unwavering support and immeasurable contribution to the development and advancement of the people of Samoa, the Pacific region, and the Commonwealth family alike.”
The Head of State also extended Samoa’s prayers of comfort to the Royal Family, people, and the Government of the United Kingdom during this time of sorrow.
