Mau’u handed in his resignation in a letter addressed to the Party Leader and suspended MP for Lepa Tuilaepa Dr Sailele Malielegaoi, Deputy Leader Fonotoe Pierre Lauofo and HRPP members dated 25 November 2022.

Mauu said the needs of Vaa o Fonoti is a huge factor in his decision to resign from the party. He pointed out the difficulties faced by his constituents on a daily basis due to poor roads and the serious threat of sea level rise and yet there are no sea walls.

He said while there is no ill feelings towards the party, it’s evident that his constituency will not receive any assistance for the much-needed development in his district if he remains with the HRPP due to dirty politics.

Citing that members of his constituency have continued to question him in his ability to fulfil the needs of Fagaloa and also made the suggestion that for the best interest of the people of Fagaloa, he must resign from HRPP and maybe then the needs of the constituency will be addressed by the current administration.

This is the third HRPP Member of Parliament to resign this month, Ale Vena and Tuu’u Anasii Leiota resigned after the Party leader and secretary were suspended from parliament for two years after being convicted of contempt of parliament and contempt of court.
