The 25 of June 2022 will be forever etched in the mind and hearts of Fogapoa residents when a man and his son were shot to death in the village.
Today the family of the accused conducted an ifoga, a traditional apology whereas the family members of the shooter were covered in a fine, seeking forgiveness.
Live footage of the ifoga which was accepted by the mother of the deceased men went viral on social media.
The shooting incident occurred on Thursday as a result of a land dispute in Fogapoa. The Ministry of Police and Prisons confirmed the accused in his 50’s turned himself into the Police in Tuasivi after the deadly shooting.
Adding the pistol an illegal weapon in the Country that was used in the shooting is now in the custody of the Police.
Deputy Commissioner Auapa’au Logoitino Filipo said the man had since been charged with murder, and most likely there will be additional charges.
He also confirmed yesterday, that the wife of the 18-year-old is injured as she attempted to protect her husband who died.
Auapaau said the Police are closely monitoring the movements in the village to ensure this doesn’t escalate and urged the village council to step in to ensure peace prevails in the village.
The accuses had since been transported from Savaii to Apia. He is scheduled to appear in court next month for criminal mention.
