Juvenile delinquent charged in death incident on ferry

The latest development in relation to the incident on the ferry last weekend, where a man died after he was run over by a truck, a juvenile delinquent has been charged by the Ministry of Police and Prisons.

This was confirmed by Police Commissioner Auapa’au Logoitino Filipo in response to questions from Radio Polynesia, which first reported the incident.

Auapa’au said the 16 year old boy has been charged with negligent driving causing death, but there is a possibility of more charges.

The Commissioner declined to comment when asked whether the 16-year juvenile has been charged as an adult or a minor, noting that he will respond to that specific question.

Auapa’au confirmed the driver was sleeping under the truck and when the ferry arrived at Mulifanua from a trip to Savaii, the accused a co-worker of the deceased, got behind the wheel and ran over the man.

The young boy is under the custody of the Police and will appear in court next month.
