Latest travel stats confirms a decrease of 4.9 percent for August

The total International Arrival Statistics recorded for the month of August 2023, totaling 21,752 arrivals, revealed a decrease of 4.9 percent over the previous month of July 2023. 

This is according to the latest report by the Samoa Bureau of Statistics regarding arrival data. Those who traveled to Samoa by Air represented 96.1%, while 3.9% were described by those who traveled by Sea.  

The arrival numbers from August 2014 to August 2023 show the impact of Covid 19 on arrival numbers between April 2020 and July 2022. 

New Zealand remains the leading country in visitors’ arrival by land of usual residence, accounting for 42.3 percent of total visitors or 6,973 visitors. 

Australia followed next with a distant 27.0 percent share (4,455). American Samoa reported 7.5 percent (1,233 visitors), while the United States of America reported 7.5 percent (1,230) of total visitors.

Those in Samoa for Sports recorded 1,070 visitors, while those on Business/Conference reported 732 visitors. Total visitors by purpose of visit with international borders reopening on August 2022 and August 2023.
