In the last two days, the Legislative Assembly held its first-ever Commonwealth Parliamentary Association of CPA Branch meeting at Parliament House Mulinuu.
The meeting is a platform for Members who attended the various CPA workshops and forums to present what they had learned from these different forums.
It is also an opportune event for Members to share on issues of mutual interest as well as discuss integral matters that will further enhance democratic principles in parliamentary practices and procedures.
Speaker of the House, PAPALII Lio Oloipola Taeu Masipau, officially opened the Meeting with the Key Address, describing the establishment, key objectives as well as roles and functions of the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association. It was also emphasized in his address the importance of Samoa becoming a member of the Association, with opportunities to strengthen the implementation of Samoa’s democratic duties and especially to enhance the Members’ knowledge and abilities in order to effectively carry out their parliamentary duties.
There were 5 presentations included in the Meeting’s agenda, detailing the topics and the outcomes of several international conferences attended by Parliamentary Members. These presentations were presented by the Members mentioned below:
