Man dies following bus crash in Malifa

The elderly passenger injured when a Falealili bus collided with a Tucson on Monday morning at the four intersections at Malifa has passed away due to the severity of his injuries.

Police Commissioner Auapa’au Logoitino Filipo confirmed this in response to questions from Radio Polynesia.

Three other passengers remain in critical condition. He said their investigation is underway, but the preliminary reports indicate the bus had faulty brakes.

Video footage on the incident showed the bus split in half after crashing into the oncoming Tucson.

According to Auapa’au the passengers admitted into the hospital include an elderly person and several women. The driver of the Tucson was a female and was also taken into the hospital for treatment but was released.

The video footage of the incident showed that the back of the Tucson sustained a huge dent.
