A man from Samoa accused of having a sexual relationship with a 16-year-old girl for almost a year has been arrested.
During the arrest, police allegedly discovered drugs in his pocket.
The defendant, Filisi Mauigoa, a.k.a Filisi Mau is charged with one count of unlawful possession of marijuana, sex charges of rape, and sodomy. All are felony charges.
Bail is set at $20,000.
The defendant was ordered not to make any contact with the girl in this matter. The incident came to light in April, this year when the 16-year-old girl went missing from home, and the mother discovered her phone and found text messages between the girl and the defendant.
It is alleged they engaged in a sexual relationship since December of last year.
Court documents say the victim met the defendant at a store and at times they met up during soccer games.
“The second week into their friendship, the victim and the defendant began talking through text messages utilizing Facebook and their friendship grew closer.”
Court documents further say, the girl’s first visit to the defendant’s home where the first alleged rape occurred.
The defendant was apprehended from his friend’s home last month. When questioned by investigators, Filisi admitted to the sex allegations against him, however, denied the allegation that he raped the victim on the first night of their sexual relationship, saying it was consensual.
Regarding the marijuana found in his pocket, it’s alleged that Filisi confirmed it belonged to him and was for personal use.
