Last week, Marist golfers from Samoa, New Zealand and Australia got together to play golf at the
Marist 3 Nations Tournament in New Zealand.
The tournament was hosted by Marist Pro V New Zealand at the Formosa Golf Club, Beachlands,
Auckland.
“We were very pleased with the strong support from Samoa (Marist B.I.G) and Australia (Marist Pro
V Melbourne) for this tournament. I believe this tournament is a platform to strengthen the network
of Marist golfers around the World and to develop golf amongst the youth, particularly in Samoa,”
said Tuala Ben Silva, President of host Marist Pro V NZ.
Marist Pro V NZ gifted golf equipment that was kindly donated by JK’s World of Golf to Marist BIG
(Samoa) Taxi’s junior golf program in Samoa.
Marist BIG Samoa sent over a strong contingent of 16 players led by their Skipper, Tuuu Amaramo
Sialaoa. According to Tuuu, “We were pleased with the organization of the tournament by Marist
Pro V NZ. It was also a marvelous opportunity to fellowship with Marist golfers from both NZ and
Australia.”
Australia was represented by Marist Pro V Melbourne with 13 players led by their President Tuala
Paletasala Tevaga.
Marist Pro V NZ won the tournament after 2 grueling days, followed by Marist B.I.G Samoa and
Marist Pro V Melbourne respectively.
The 3 rd day was played at Clarks Beach Golf Club using the House colour format. This is where the
players from the 3 countries played for the Houses they belonged to when they had attended Marist
Brothers’ schools in Samoa. There are four House colours, namely Alfred (green), Darnand (yellow),
Marcelling (blue) and Dieter (Red).
As with the Marist Vodafone fautasi regatta in Samoa in 2020 and Marist Taula golf tournament in
2022, Alfred again came out on top at Clark’s Beach edging out Darnand to win the Vui Leota Saufua
Isaako Trophy kindly donated by Marist Seniors Association NZ.
“Aside from the camaraderie and strengthening of the Marist Spirit, I am happy that all 3 golf clubs
have agreed to look at setting up a Marist Brothers (Samoa) International Golf Association that will
oversee the hosting of annual tournaments amongst Marist golfers around the World and to develop
the sport of golf,” said Lemalu James Jamieson, the Director of the Marist 3 Nations Tournament.
He also acknowledged the support for the tournament of Moana Rentals, Pacific Ezy, Galaxy
Childcare, Digicel, Talofa Voucher, Bens Carrier, Signs Studio, Amoa Resort, Salote Florist, Karas,
HRV, The Clubroom, Ponsonby Wellness Center, Silva Group, Jar Civil Works, Marist Seniors NZ Assc,
Marist St Joseph Wellington, 4SJC88 ma Uso and Formosa Golf Club.
Samoa will host next year’s golf tournament from 8 th to 10 th August 2024.
According to Marist B.I.G Samoa’s Director (Taupau Carlton Chadwick), “We want to schedule next
year’s tournament to take place immediately after the celebration of the 100 Years of Marist
Brothers Old Pupils Association on 29 th July – 4 th August 2024. I can only see this tournament and
network growing, hopefully with American Samoa joining in with other cities or states in Australia,
NZ, USA and around the World.
