The total International Arrival Statistics recorded for May 2023, totalling 21,796 arrivals, revealed an increase of 13.7 per cent over April 2023.
Those who travelled to Samoa by Air represented 94.8%, while 5.2% represented those who travelled by Sea. The arrival numbers from May 2014 to May 2023, clearly show the impact of Covid 19 on arrival numbers between April 2020 and July 2022, with international borders reopening in August 2022.
Overall visitor numbers for the month under review stood at 15,719, revealing an increase of 14.6 per cent over April 2023.
New Zealand remains the leading country in visitors’ arrival by land of usual residence, accounting for 43.9 per cent of total visitors or 6,902 visitors. Australia followed next with a distant 28.6 per cent share (4,495).
United States of America reported 7.9 per cent (1,247 visitors), while American Samoa reported 5.2 per cent (819) of total visitors.
