MCC hires first ever Samoan woman sailor graduate

The first ever woman sailor graduate to be hired by the Mediterranean Shipping Company, (M.S.C.) will soon be heading overseas.

This is according to the Chief Executive of the Samoa Shipping Services, (S.S.S.) Chief Executive Lautimuia Afoa Vaai in an interview with Savali.

He said the female sailor will be the pioneer flag carrier for Samoa women sailors employed by the M.S.C. while the S.S.S. continues its mission to secure more employment opportunities for Samoan women sailors.

He said there opportunities for women to work with the M.S.C.’s Hotel Department, but the Samoan women sailors opt to work on the deck with their brothers from home.

Savali reports that hundreds of jobs secured by S.S.S. in recent years noted the Chief Executive’s confidence in his management team and staff citing the increase in recruitment numbers in the last 12 month period despite the Border restrictions due to the COVID19.
