The Ministry of Police and Prisons will undergo a reshuffle within the force, in line with a review of the Ministry’s full operation which was conducted by a New Zealand consultant on the Ministry’s operation.
This was confirmed by Minster Lefau Harry Schuster in an interview with Radio Polynesia.
He said the review by this New Zealand consultant was conducted in 2019 and is a “comprehensive review” that has been endorsed by Cabinet, making this review a government policy and mandate for the Police Commissioner to carry out.
“Cabinet adopted the reforms outlined in this review as a way forward for the Ministry of Police and Prisons.”
Adding that he made the recommendation to Cabinet to endorse it when the FAST Administration took office.
On the implementation side, the Minister said the Commissioner has full authority in how he goes about “restructuring” the Ministry as it is well within his powers as the Police Commissioner.
Cabinet will not interfere in how these newly adopted policies are implemented, where he reassigns his staff, that is totally up to the Commissioner, but he must carry out the implementation right away.
