National independence celebration held in Savaii for the first time

For the first time since 1962 Samoa’s independence celebration was held in Savai’i. 

The 60th-anniversary ceremony this morning was held at the Don Bosco Technical College compound in Salelologa.

The flag was raised by Prime Minister Fiame Naomi Mata’afa accompanied by Police Commissioner Auapa’au Logoitino Filipo and the Police honour guard. 

Reverend Elder Palemia Reupena led the service in prayer. 

Prime Minister during her special remarks said the year-long celebration with villages conducting their own programs in effort to ensure that each village is part of the celebration. 

The Prime Minister also revealed for the first Cabinet will meet in Savaii this week.
