New complaint lands before Speaker


Speaker of the House, Li’o Papalii has confirmed a complaint lodged by a member of Parliament against another MP.

He said due to standing orders he will not name the complainant and the accused MP in this new matter.

During Parliament today, Li’o said a copy of the letter is delivered to the accused Member. However, pursuant to S.O180 (2), the Speaker shall not reveal the names of the Members.

“I will analyze the letter of complaint and make a decision on whether a question of privilege is involved in accordance to S.O178 (2).”

The Speaker then called on the accused member to submit a written response regarding the complaint by 4pm on Tuesday 24th May 2022 for his review and consideration.

The next sitting of Parliament is scheduled for 31 May.
