A one-year-old baby girl is fighting for her life and is currently in an induced coma at the Intensive Care Unit suffering from severe pneumonia as a result of COVID-19.
The Head of the Paediatric Ward confirmed this in an interview with Radio Polynesia over the phone.
Despite being isolated at home, Papalii Dr Tito Kamu has confirmed they are negotiating with a Paediatrician from New Zealand to assist with the treatment of the one-year-old girl.
He explained the baby has been in an induced coma for three days now and she’s slowly recovering, but she remains in critical condition.
He explained pneumonia is an infection that inflames the air sacs in one or both lungs, causing cough, fever, chills, and difficulty breathing.
A variety of organisms, including bacteria, viruses and fungi, can cause pneumonia.
