Overseas announcer charged with defamation, appears in court

Tiumalumatua Maifea Fetu, an Australia-based Samoan radio announcer yesterday denied the criminal charge of defamation against him when he appeared in the District Court.

He was charged earlier this month, in relation to “derogatory” claims against how the FAST took office.

The matter was presided over by District Court Judge, Talasa Atoa Sa’aga.

The defendant’s not guilty plea was made through his lawyer, Faimalomatumua Matthew Lemisio. The matter had since been postponed three weeks from today.  The criminal charges follow a complaint lodged by Fa’atuatua i le Atua Samoa ua Tasi party Secretary, Va’aaoao Salu Alofipo last month.

The complaint cited talk shows on “SAMOA TOE FAAOLAOLA-Samoa Come Alive-the Beat of Samoa” on Facebook.
