The Pacific Transnational Crime Network will be hosting its annual in the Country on Monday.
The conference is held at the Taumeasina Island Resort. Minister of Police and Prisons Faualo Lefau Harry Schuster will be the keynote speaker.
This was confirmed in an invitation to media outlets for coverage by Police Commissioner Auapa’au Logoitino Filipo.
“The PTCN is a Pacific-led multi-agency law enforcement information sharing Network created in 2002 to combat transnational crime in the Pacific.
The PTCN comprises of 28 Transnational Crime Units (TCU) across 20 PTCN member countries, and Samoa hosts the hub of the Network, the Pacific Transnational Crime Coordination Centre (PTCCC).
“The PTCCC has been in the Samoa Fale since 2008 and is co located with the Samoa TCU.
“The PTCN is a programme of the Pacific Islands Chiefs of Police (PICP) and is supported by a Declaration of Partnership with the key regional law enforcement agencies, Pacific Immigration Development Community (PIDC) and the Oceania Customs Organisation (OCO).
This year the PTCN celebrates its 20th anniversary as a trusted law enforcement information-sharing Network.”
Auapa’au said the main purpose of this coverage is to increase awareness and promote the efforts of the PTCN in working together for a safer blue pacific.
“The PTCN Team Leader conference is a three-day program and brings together law enforcement Team Leaders from the 28 TCUs across the 20 PTCN member countries. This is the first time since 2019 that the event has occurred in person.
“Representatives from regional bodies such as INTERPOL, PIDC, OCO and the PICP will attend as guest presenters.”
The Police Commissioner the conference will be closed to the media but matters to be discussed includes strengthening the relationships between the TCU’s; discussions on current and emerging transnational crime trends and a law enforcement response and discussions on challenges that can affect information sharing in the Pacific.
