PM and delegates in Am Samoa for third meeting of Atoa o Samoa


Prime Minister Fiame Naomi Mataafa, arrived in the Territory yesterday with a delegation of about 30 officials, including Cabinet Ministers, Laauli Leuatea Schmidt, Valasi Selesele, Olo Fiti Vaai,, Leatinuu Wayne Soo-i-alo, Mulipola Anarosa Molioo, CEO Peseta Nou-mea Simi, and Su’a Hellene Wallwork-Lamb Attorney General of Samoa.

KVZK news reported that last year, the leaders of the two Governments agreed to have the Atoa o Samoa meetings twice a year.

The last time the two governments met was October last year, where Samoa hosted the delegation from American Samoa in Apia where a Memorandum of Agreement was signed on development cooperation between Samoa and American Samoa.

The MOA recognizes the importance of enduring relations between two Samoa’s which is founded on shared history, culture, language, social and family ties.

It also considered the common objectives between the two Samoa’s, to promote economic development and co-operation to obtain fuller opportunities for social progress, pursue measures for sustainable development, and strengthen good governance and security.

The MOA further outlined various issues the two governments agreed to work collaboratively to improve.

According to the program of the Atoa o Samoa meeting from the Governor’s office, the meeting will kick off in a Traditional ‘Ava Ceremony to be followed by an invocation.

Afterwards will be the official group photo, then the co chairs, Hon Governor Lemanu and Fiame Naomi Mataafa will then deliver their special remarks.
