The Police have filed a manslaughter charge against Pelia Sauvao Hakai, the 53-year-old grandmother implicated in the death of her 3-year-old granddaughter.
The toddler allegedly died of suffocation in a vehicle at Faleasiu last year in October. Police stated earlier that the grandmother allegedly forgot the child was in the vehicle.
Hakai was initially charged with one count of failure under the duty of parents and guardians to provide necessities of life.
This case was heard before the District Court, however, with the additional charge of manslaughter the matter has been transferred to the Supreme Court.
The case has been adjourned to the 1st of August for criminal mention.
