Close to 10 people have lodged official complaints with the Police against a couple pretending to be recruiters for RSE workers overseas and as a result, allegedly scammed more than $10,000 tala.

This was confirmed by Deputy Police Commissioner Auapa’au Logoitino Filipo in response to questions from Radio Polynesia.

The man and woman from Si’usega are being investigated by the Ministry of Police and Prisons over claims of a scam.

Auapa’au said close to 10 people have lodged complaints against this couple this week and Police anticipate there will be more complainants that will be coming forward.

“People paid thousands of tala seeking employment opportunities overseas but only to be told their trip has been postponed several times.”

Auapa’au said this is not the first time they have encountered people pretending to be RSE recruiters and they have issued warnings in the past for members of the public not to fall for scams.
