Police investigates authenticity of gruesome video circulating online

A gruesome video circulating online, of bodies being decapitated with Samoan voices, heard in the background is being investigated by the Ministry of Police and Prisons.

“We are investigating the authenticity of the video,” said Deputy Police Commissioner Auapa’au Logoitino Filipo in response to questions from Radio Polynesia.

He said the Police received a number of calls about this gruesome video and that’s what prompted the investigation.

Adding that while it looks like a video game, the gruesome content of the video circulating online must be investigated.

The Deputy Police Commissioner said the video will be reviewed by their IT division using the latest equipment they recently receive that provides forensic software tools designed to assist in reviewing, analyzing, clarifying, and authenticating surveillance images and video.

In the meantime, Auapa’au is appealing to members of the public to stop sharing this gruesome video online, for fear that young children will be exposed to this type of horrifying and repellant violence.
