Minister offers condolences to the victims and their families

Minister of Police and Prisons, Faualo Harry Schuster has expressed condolences to the families of the three victims that died tragically in car accident earlier this week in Tiavi.

They have been identified as Anitere’a Toloto Tavita, Petelo Tavita and Lemo Lisati Leaupepe. All three men worked with the Assets Division of the Ministry of Police and Prisons.

In an interview with Radio Polynesia at his office, the Minister had this to say:

Aside from benefits provided by the Accident Compensation Corporation and the Samoa National Provident Fund for the three victims, Faualo said the Ministry will also contribute to the funeral arrangements for the three victims.

In the meantime, the only survivor of the tragic accident has been released from the hospital.

He had since given a statement to the Police as to what the events of the day in question.

This was confirmed by Deputy Police Commissioner, Auapaau Logoitino Filipo in an interview with Radio Polynesia.

The four men in the Police Dyna truck were heading to the Poutasi Outpost for a renovation project when the incident occurred.

Auapa’au said preliminary investigation suggests that speeding was a major factor in this traffic accident.
