The Ministry of Police and Prisons dispatched two search teams in separate drowning incidents in Savaii earlier today, in search of three men.
This was confirmed by Deputy Police Commissioner, Auapa’au Logoitino Filipo in response to questions from Radio Polynesia.
He said there are two separate incidents and it’s unfortunate that despite the bad weather these men still went fishing.
“In Asau two men were swept at sea and Police were able to recover one body, but the other body remains missing. The search continued until an hour ago it was suspended due to rough seas.
“The second drowning incident occurred in Taga where the other Police search team were scouring that part of the ocean, to look for the third body. That search has also been suspended, until tomorrow morning,” said Auapa’au.
“We are working together with the Fire Emergency Authority Services in search of the missing bodies.”
The Deputy Commissioner reminds the public to heed warnings by the local weather station.
