A total of sixteen (16) security officers with the Samoa Ports Authority have been suspended pending an investigation of claims of theft from companies storing containers at the Apia International Port.
This was confirmed in a statement released by the SPA.
“The matter has been referred and is currently being investigated by the Ministry of Police and Prisons to identify those involved. Decisions will be based on the outcome of this investigation.
“Due to the above incident, the Authority has implemented new changes to the port entry requirements since Saturday, 19 August 2023.
“Therefore, we apologize for any inconvenience these changes may cause and thank you greatly for your understanding and cooperation.”
Police Commissioner Auapa’au Logoitino Filipo confirmed the investigation launched into this matter. ” We will leave no stone unturned in this case, employees are entrusted to carry out a service for our people, so it is quite concerning when such incidents occur,” said Auapa’au.
