Quick action by the Fire Emergency Services Authority in putting out the fire saved the building near the Mulivai Catholic Cathedral close to noon today.
On the scene, the lady in uniform, within the compound, said “that is the house to count the church offering collected on Sundays.
“It’s a special house to count the offering,” she told Radio Polynesia.
Police Commissioner Auapa’au Logoitino Filipo said the “fire is under control” and declined to comment noting that a Police investigation is underway.
In the meantime, the outside structure of the building that was on fire remains, along with the roof, but the smoke caught everyone’s attention in the town area.
Another young lady who appears to be a member of the Catholic church chased this reporter away. Radio Polynesia also approached two senior members of the church but they refused to comment.
However, they pointed out that next to the building that was on fire is another residential building, which, could have been worse if the fire had caught the next-door house, that contained gas tanks.
