Team Samoa arrived in the Country with 21 medals including 8 gold medals from the 2022 Pacific Mini-Games in Northern Marianas last week, where they ranked no.8 on the overall medal tally.
Team Samoa 8 gold medals were from individual performances, 6 from our weightlifting team, and 2 from athletics.
Savali reported the President of the Samoa Association of Sports and National Olympic Committee (S.A.S.N.O.C.) Pauga Talalelei Pauga is impressed and proud of Samoa’s performance of 21 medals, 8 gold, 8 silver, and 5 bronze medals.
“Many of our young athletes especially our weightlifters and athletes competed against adult competitors who competed in previous Games.
“I am confident that they will excel if selected to represent their country in the full Pacific Games in the Solomon Islands.”
Adding there was no doubt about the achievements of the team doubt given more international exposure, the promising young athletes will have the makings and willpower to qualify as Samoa’s flag carriers in the next Commonwealth Games in Birmingham and even at the France Olympic Games.
“The future of Samoa Sports is in the hands of our young athletes and their Mini Games performance speaks volumes of what our country can expect in the future.”
He also urged any young athlete with God-Given talents to excel in sports to explore and discover their full sports potential by stepping up to reveal their talents.
The SASNOC President also acknowledges the financial and moral support by Government, parents and families who played in leading role which providing the opportunity for Team Samoa athletes and management to represent the country.
“My thanks to our Government for the funds supporting us, but my special thanks to our families, supporters and everybody in Samoa I know you guys have been praying for us.”
