Built at Tafa’igata the old prison, the groundbreaking ceremony was held yesterday. China’s Ambassador to Samoa Chao Xiaoliang congratulated the Ministry of Police and Prisons, under the guidance of Police Commissioner Auapa’au Logoitino Filipo on the groundbreaking of this project.

The project is funded by the People’s Republic of China with Samoa’s approved assistance of $1,152,494 making up the total estimated cost of WST$16,652,494.

“This groundbreaking is inseparable from the support of all parties. I would like to take this opportunity to thank all those whose dedication and efforts made this project a reality.”

He acknowledged China’s relationship with the Samoa Government and also the Shaanxi Construction Engineering Group Corporation for the endeavours put into this project despite the adverse impact of some restrictive factors including COVID-19.
