The Ministry of Police and Prisons are on the verge of signing a Memorandum of Understanding with the Fijian Police.
“This is for Fiji Police Officers who are UN qualified trainers to train local Police officers for UN missions and for pathologists from Fiji to conduct post mortems in Samoa, given the hospital does not have a pathologist on the island,” said Police Commissioner Auapa’au Logoitino Filipo in response to Radio Polynesia questions.
“And pertaining to the MoU it is still in its early stages and nothing has been finalized yet with the Fiji Police,” said Auapa’au.
The Fiji Police Commissioner has given an offer to provide assistance when it is needed in terms of a pathologist.
In June this year, the head of the Fiji Police Force Forensics Pathology Unit completed a series of meetings with senior Samoan law enforcement officials on the development of the Medico-legal /Death Investigation System and the Forensic science Service.
The meetings were facilitated by Fiji Police Pathologist Dr James Kalougivaki in accordance with Fiji’s commitment of ensuring the exchange of shared learnings between Pacific Island law enforcement agencies.
Dr Kalougivaki during the meeting spoke on the development of the Medico-legal /Death Investigation System and the Forensic science Service in Samoa, and also focused areas related to COVID19 body management and assisted in the conduct of post-mortem examinations of pending Police cases.
Fiji’s Police Commissioner Brigadier General Sitiveni Qiliho said the Fiji Police is always keen on strengthening cooperation and exchanges with our partners in the Pacific region.
