Schools closed down from 1-5 May, due to increasing cases of the flu

All schools in Samoa are to remain closed from 1 May to 5th, as approved by Cabinet. This was confirmed in a statement issued by the Ministry of Education Sports and Culture, as a result of the increasing number of flu cases in the Country.

This applies to government, mission and private schools. All teachers are to report to their workstations and resume work under normal working hours from 9 am to 5 pm, Monday to Friday.

Teachers are to continue with their work on planning and distributing learning packages for this week. The Ministry will provide online resources and learning programmes through the Ministry’s website, television and radio.

“All precautions and advice as listed below are listed are encouraged for all the employees of the Ministry. “All teachers whether Government, Early Childhood Education, Private and Mission and visitors.

“Facial masks are now encouraged to be worn at all times; proper hygiene practices and respiratory etiquettes are encouraged to be observed at all times. Social distancing will be encouraged at all times.”
