A 17-year-old male from Siumu has been charged by the Police with arson.

This is in relation to an incident out of Sa’anapu on Friday afternoon where he lit a fire while a man was filling a gallon with petrol. This started the fire that damaged one of the pumps at the gas station.

This was confirmed by Deputy Police Commissioner, Auapaau Logoitino Filipo in response to questions from Radio Polynesia.

He said fortunately no one was injured and damages were limited.

Adding the Police and the Fire Emergency Services Authority investigation are continuing.

A CCTV circulating online saw the young man was accompanied by two other men in the bed of a Dyna truck.

While another man was filling a gallon with petrol, the accused lit a fire against the gallon and that’s what started the fire. The men immediately jumped off the truck at the same time, the dyne truck drove away from the affected pump.

The gas station is owned by Member of Parliament Lea’ana Ronnie Posini.

Efforts were made by Radio Polynesia to get a direct comment from the Member of Parliament but were unsuccessful.
