The Speaker of the House, Li’o Papalii Taeu has yet to make a final decision on an official complaint lodged against “unnamed” Members of Parliament.

The unnamed MP’s were given up until yesterday Monday 3 May 2022 at 4 pm to respond in writing to the written complaint made against them and he will make a ruling accordingly today.

However, when the Legislative Assembly convened today the Speaker explained additional time is required to review the complaint and responses.

Last Friday, the Speaker confirmed receiving a written complaint citing violation of section 178.1 of the Standing Orders by a Member of Parliament and pursuant to section 180.1 the complaint has been handed over to the accused MP’s.

He said under section 180.2 stipulates that the Speaker shall not report on a matter involving another member without first informing that member that this is intended.
