Tafesilafa’i Ipiniu Filipo new CEO of Shipping Services

Tafesilafa’i Ipiniu Filipo has been appointed General Manager for the Samoa Shipping Services. 

Prior to taking this position, Tafesilafa’i served as Assistant Manager of Corporate Services. 

The said position was advertised in March after Lautimuia Afoa Vaai tendered his resignation to run for office. Lautimuia currently holds the seat for Vaimauga 3. 

Since 2019, Tafesilafa’i served as S.S.S. Assistant General Manager before his appointment by Cabinet this week.
From 2013 to 2018, he was the ACEO for Regulatory and Consumer Services at the Office of the Regulator.
Tafesilafa’i graduated from the University of the South Pacific in 2006 with a Bachelor of Arts in Economics, Banking and Finance.
Tafesilifa’i replaces the newly elected Member of Parliament for Vaimauga 3, afioga Lautimuia Afoa Uelese Vaai.
He is married and hails from the village of Falefa.

According to the Ministry of Public Enterprises advertisement for the CEO position, the main objective of this position is to lead the execution of the Company’s functions, roles and responsibilities as set out under the Samoa Shipping Act 1998 and the implementation of its corporate plan efficiently and cost-effectively to ensure the Company provides sustainable Crewing and Shipping Services in accordance with international maritime standards. 

The CEO is responsible for the professional administration of the Samoa Shipping Services in executing its statutory functions. 

Efficient and effective administration and implementation of all legislations, Government policies and directives relating to and affecting the Samoa Shipping Services and achieving the SSS’s expected outcomes and key performance indicators as stipulated in its Corporate Plan 2021-2024.
